Like Windows Defender, Microsoft Security Essentials is a free AntVirus program that is compatible with Windows 7 and does not slow down the system. It seems to have received good functionality reviews also.

With all the anti-virus software that’s out there, How do I know what’s right for me?

Unfortunately that is a tuff question and the answer changes with the every new program that comes to market and with every new version of esisting programs. Just recently I would have sworn by Kspersky now the new version has forced me to look at Microsoft Security Essentials.
The best answer is two-fold. First decide if you are willing to pay for a program or are only interested in free ones. This will limit the field. Then watch this blog and see what other responses are for what programs are good.

Currently the free winner is looking like Microsoft Security Essentials with AVG Free a close runner up (although version 9 feels slow).
The jury is still out on the paid version.
